The Isle of Thorns Camp was set up by a wealthy merchant banker, Alfred Wagg in very grand style. With such extensive facilities this was no ordinary scout camp.  We have articles here describing the camp in 1937, one from a very happy 1950s camper and how to  make underpants last 4 days and an obituary for Alfred Wagg.  

The articles give interesting insight into living conditions in the mid twentieth century East End and the extensive camp facilities which even included an aquarium, a reptillary and electricity.
